The short version

Orb runs on your device. Nothing leaves it unless you turn on the optional Web Search, which sends only your search text to Brave.
No accounts, no sign-up, no tracking.
No analytics, crash reporting, or third-party SDKs.
Your conversations, documents, and voice recordings stay on your phone.

Data we collect

None. Orb does not collect or store any personal data. All processing — AI inference, speech transcription, and document analysis — happens locally on your device using on-device models. The only data that ever leaves your device is the search text you submit when you choose to use the optional Web Search (see below).

Network usage

Orb requires an internet connection only once: to download the AI model files on first launch. These files are downloaded from Hugging Face, a public model repository. No user data is sent during this download.

After the initial download, the app works fully offline for all on-device features — chat, vision, voice, documents, and image generation. The only exception is the optional Web Search feature described below, which is turned off by default.

Web search (optional)

Orb includes an optional Web Search feature that is turned off by default. If you turn it on, the text of your search query is sent over the internet to Brave Search (Brave Software, Inc.) to fetch live results. This is the only feature that sends any data off your device.

Only the search-query text is transmitted — your conversations, images, voice recordings, and documents are never sent. We do not collect, log, or store your queries; each query goes directly to Brave and is handled under Brave's Privacy Policy. You can turn Web Search off at any time, after which Orb runs fully offline again.

Permissions

Orb requests the following permissions, all used solely for on-device functionality:

Camera: to let you photograph documents or images for analysis
Microphone: to transcribe voice messages locally using an on-device model
Storage: to read files you choose to share with the assistant

Third parties

Orb does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-sharing services. The only third party that ever receives data is Brave Search, and only when you turn on the optional Web Search — in which case only your search-query text is sent, to fetch results (see “Web search” above). Nothing else is shared with any third party for any purpose.

Children's privacy

Orb is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date above and note the change in the app's release notes.
